  • Previous studies about jazz in Indonesia tend to generalize and hold a bias against narration from the center, they do not see the diferent narration from micro scope. Using Yogyakarta jazz community as an entry point, this study shows that during 2002-2010, diferent narration happened. In 2002-2006, the Gadjah Wong community dominated jazz scenes, it employed a strategy of building a dominant discourse about standart jazz so that it could hold the annual event, Jazz Gayeng. In 2007, the dominant position was taken over by Samirono community as a representation of fusion jazz. Through the support of an agent from traditional art, it built a discourse about open jazz to make sure that Ngayogjazz happens. Kata-kata kunci: Komunitas jazz; Yogyakarta; dominasi, strategi.
