  • This researchaims to analyzefactors of local cultural valuesand religiouscausesof violenceduring pregnancy-post-childbirth.This researchhas been conducted in Sunju Village (rural) and TanjungBatu Village (urban) in the Regencyof Donggala.Central elebes.Surveywere carried out amongall married women of childbearingage who are pregnant. women at post-childbirth. those who hove experienced pregnancyand giving birth at maximum of two yearsago.and experiencedviolenceduring that time. A total number of 94 respondent swereinvolvedin this research.The resultsshowedthat husbandto wife violenceoccurredduring pregnancyand post-childbirth both in urban and rural areas. The percentage of violencetoward wife in the urban reached43.28 percent. while that in the rural was 42.8 percent. Local cultural values refelected in the concept of siri' or naeya and the practice of doi' balanca are portly responsiblefor the violence. In addition. religious doctrine has also significant contribution to trigger the husbandto wife violencein urban and rural areas.
