- Thepurpose of this experiment was determine the Dieffenbachia groth responses to the nitrogen fertilizer and shade intensity. The experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta, Wedomartani, Sleman, Yogyakarta Province, during the period of August up to December 2003. A factorial experiment of 4 x 4 factors was employed, Where the treatments wae arranged in Spiit Plot Design with 3 replications. The main plots were shade intensities consisted of 4 levels namely: no shade (O%),shadeintensity 25%, shade intensity 50% and shade intensity 75%.The sub plots were nitrogen dosages, consisted of 4 levels namely: no fertilizer, 2g, 4g and 6g/pot. The results sho~d that: (1) Interaction bet~en shade intensities and nitrogen dosages gave a significant effect in the plant growth, (2) Shade intensity 50% and 75% 'llith nitrogen 2 g better in the length of Dieffenbachia root (3) Shade intensity 75% with nitrogen 2,48 g gave sum of leaves 19,96 (4) Shade intensity 50% with nitrogen 2 g gave dry ~ight of the plant and weight of the roots better than other treatment.
