- This coordinated research project, which is designed to identify major limiting constraints in beef cattle and goat production, has been conducted since October 1, 1978. The project consists of five sub-projects namely: Animal Breeding and Reproduction, Animal Nutrition, Forage Production, Environmental Physiology, and Economic and Extension. In accord with the main objective, the investigations are mostly confined to efforts to understand the existing production systems. This is done in hope that by the end of the fourth year, sufficient basic data are available for the group to start experiments for removing the constraints thereby increasing the productivity of the animals. Some start, of course, has already been made in this endeavor. The experiments and the surveys carried out in the third year were continuations or replications of the first and the second years. However, some of the designed experiments could not be carried out as planned due to various reasons. The following presents the highlights of the activities.
