  • Zeolite is a mineral consisted of three composers of hydrated aluminosilicates crystalline, exchangeable cations, and water. Zeolite heat activation tends to release ions and water molecules from the zeolite pores. The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of zeolite heat activation duration on Cu-zeolite antimicrobial effect toward Staphylococcus aureus. The research used 5 groups of Cu-zeolit which had been heat activated in temperature of 200oC in 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90 minutes with 7samples each group. Antimicrobial test of Cu-zeolite was determined by diffusion method. The data were analized by One way Anova followed by LSD0.05 test. The Anova showed zeolite heat activation duration influenced Cu-zeolite antimicrobial effect toward Staphylococcus aureus (p<0.05). The LSD0.05 test showed the significant difference of antimicrobial effect, except of 60 minutes heat activation duration group to 75 and 90 minutes. In conclusion, zeolite heat activation duration influenced Cu-zeolite antimicrobial effect toward Staphylococcus aureus. Zeolite heat activation duration in temperature of 200oC in 60 minutes became the optimum time of Cu-zeolite antimicrobial effect against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. Key words : heat activation duration, Cu-zeolite, Staphylococcus aureus
