  • Printed Circuit Board(PCB) manufacturing process using hydrogen peroxide and hydrochloric acid, produces liquid waste containing a lot of cupric chloride and hydrochloric acid. The allowable cupric ion concentration in waste water is 1 ppm. Therefore, this liquid waste maynot be dumped into the river to prevent pollution. The liquid waste containing cupric chloride was processed with slaked lime in a stirred tank reactor. The slaked lime used was in excess in order to attain high conversion of cupric ion. At a certain time interval, samples were taken and then filtered to remove the solid. The filtrate was analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS) to determine the remaining cupric ion content. The variables studied in this process were agitation, temperatur, solid size, and ratio of Ca (OH)2 - CuC12. The result showed good agreement with the proposed model assuming that the reaction was controlled by mass transfer. Most influencing variables were agitation and solid size. Under optimum condition, the concentration of cupric ion in the liquid left met the allowable standard. Keywords : Liquid waste, cupric chloride, slaked lime, stirred tank reactor.
