  • ABSTRACT The problems develop in kampongs where the inhabitants develop informal economic activities, i.e. that the inhabitants utilize kampong`s environments and its resources for informal economic activities. This research aims to reveal and explain the characteristics of kampongs inhabitants in Yogyakarta and their correlation with the productive economic activities. The research activities are conducted in the field by taking 112 units of homes as sample taken based on purposive method The superposition method are used in formulating the comulative tendency of space utilization. The model of house utilization for productive economic activities tends to show two different models which are home industries and service businesses based on their need for accessibility. The home industries tend to grow in zones with low accessibility, but trade and service businesses tend to grow in zones with high accessibility.
