- ABSTRACT The paper aims at examining the relationship between types and level of wral diversification and types agricultural regions in a small farming region of 7ogyakarta Special Province (DIY). The research reveals a strong association Jetween rural diversification associated with service sectors (RDS) and food crop ,roduction in the middle parts of DIY. Easy terrain in the zone is underlying the aisting patterns of relation between the two variables. Rural diversification zssociated with small-scale industries (RDI) is negatively related to livestock nroduction. In parts of DIY, they share the same location, but without systematic Tlation. Livestock products are exported to cater external market without nrocessing at local level. Thus, rural diversification is not always linked with local 2gricultural development.
