- The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of bakau free charcoal that has been used 1:1 pack carburizing process M enhancing Slaftlee Meellatifeal properties of low crarhon steel. Specimen of 20x20.1:10 nun) way made from mild steel which ermtains 98,27 %Fe and 0,157 C. Bakriu free was divided into three pans which are upper, middle, and bottom. They are made into charcoal and then pulverized. Net it was sifted on a sieve of 45 meshes. Grajit powder was also seed so that .slipped of 45 meshes. The pack carburizing process was conducted flor 2, 4, and 6 hour at 850 After carburized, the specimens were hardened by reheating at 8506C with holding time of 15 minutes and subsequently quench Ifni° water of 28 °C.. Properties changes were examined by micro vickers hardness pn the _specimen's surface, case depth Measurements and microstructure observations. C'hanges of surface hardness were analyzed using "one way ANA VA". The result shows that upper, middle. and bottom parrs of balm:4. 's tree doesn't affect. on the pack carburizing process. Bakau's charcoal is more effective compare to graft
