- Law Number 1, 1974 on Marriage is a legal norm that binds all Indonesian citizens wherever they are. The emergence of the law ruling marital matters, including the family cannot be separated from the teleology of its formation. Marriage and the family as ruled by Law Number 1, 1974 has axiological aspect, benefiting citizens and the state, with the role of creating peace and jusfice for the whole people. The rules in Law Number 1, 1974 are just like traffic-rules in the lives of citizens. The quality of family life and marriage depends a lot on individuals 'understanding of the philosophical values of marriage and family life. Family legal values, including marriage-life values will give benefits if the husband and wife always hold on to the philosophical values contained in all aspects of their family and marriage life. Indonesia, as a sovereign country, has its own legal system, including the formation of its marriage and family law The human ontological nature underlying the meaning of marriage and family life springs from Pancasila philosophical values as found in the preamble of the Indonesian 1945 Constitution, the grundnorm of the Republic of Indonesia. Therefore, we realize the importance of understanding law from its philosophical aspects for everyone : lecturers, students, practitioners, legal apparatus, citizens and State personnel. If the correct understanding is reached, God wills, the ideal of creating an orderly and peaceful state life could be realized. Kata kunci : filsafat hukum keluarga, nilai, perkawinan
