- ABSTRACT The use of evidence based medicine terms now is getting more familiar among health professionals around the globe. Unfortunately, among public health policy makers and health managers especially in developing countries the use of the term is less familiar. This article is trying to introduce the importance and the meaning of evidence based medicine. The author is also trying to describe some examples of public health policies which have not been supported by strong and relevant evi¬dences or at least in the decision making process have not applied the same ap¬proach of evidence based medicine. It is necessary, therefore, to expose readers to the evidence based public health policy. The current health care financing policy for indigent people in Indonesia is a good starting point to begin with. Keywords: evidence based medicine, public health policy, health care financing
