- ABSTRACT Effect of harvesting method on yield and quality of Madura "sawah" tobacco The research was conducted in Kambingan Timur, Saronggi, Sumenep, from May up to December 1991. Four Treatments of leaves picked i.e.: 16 leaves counted from upper leaf were picked at once, 12 leaves counted from upper leaf were picked at once, 16 leaves counted from upper leaf were picked at twice, and 16 leaves counted from upper leaf were picked at three times, were arange in Randomized Block Design with five replications. All leaves were picked when most of the leaves were mature enough. The result showed that 12 leaves counted from upper leaf were picked at once was the best, produced 1048 kg/ha sliced tobacco, 92.0 of grade index, 96.4 of crops index, 20.35% of total sugar content, and 1.45 of nicotine content. The yield of cured leaf was 186.6 kg/ha.
