- Background: Lung tuberculosis has been considered as The Reemerging Disease". DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course) strategy as the control effort which recommended by WHO facing some challenges in its implementation.There were many patients who did not obey in having the treatment package and drop out from treatment. Indeed, this behavior is social symptom that interesting to be examined. The purpose of this research was to explored factors that had influence on behavior of swallowing medicine of lung tuberculosis patient whose drop out and to identified the possibility of intervention. Methods: The research was qualitative through case study in lung tuberculosis patient whose drop out or recovers. Data collection was done through in-depth interview and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Respondents were chosen based on purposive criterion sampling. Results: Behavior of swallowing medicine of lung tuberculosis patient was influenced by perception regarding the threat from disease, the advantage as well as the cost for treatment. In addition, behavior of swallowing medicine of lung tuberculosis patient whose drop out was because of the side effect of medicine as well as the shyness because of stigma. Conclusions: Patient perception toward tuberculosis and perception toward side effect of medication were the factors influencing behavior of swallowing medicine. Keywords: lung tuberculosis
