- Background: Current implementation of fee for service payment method has disadvantages in relation to quality ()I' service. The objective of this study was to develop reclassification or diseases Or group of diseases according to the Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) payment system and to calculate its pricing. Method: All cases diagnosed as DHF and typhoid fever. aged 12 years or below, admitted to type III hospital accommodation between January 1996 up to June 1999 were recruited. Secondary data of 695 patients. consisted of 449 DHF cases and 246 typhoid fever cases were retrieved from the financial information system. The following data were obtained: cost of hospital accommodation, medical visits, supporting examination. drug, length of stay, age and sex. Variahle were presented descriptively and analyses were carried out by using independent t test, one sample t test and single linear regression. DRG cost decision is based on mean value and 95% confidence interval. Next, the mean value and 95% confidence interval of payment cost in accordance to LOS limit was determined. The same method is utilized to find cost of drug. DIM cost was obtained by adding up payment cost with and without drug. Result: The result showed a large variation of total cost for both DHF and typhoid fever (DHF: mean Rp 84.689.82 f Rp 48.139.82: Typhoid fever: mean Rp 101.455,17 + Rp 89.871.04). For DHF cases. co-morbidity did not significantly affect the total cost (1= -2,055
