  • The experiment was aimed to know the effect of storage temperature on the quality of black and yellow soybean seed after six months storing. The experiment was conducted in the Laboratory of Seed Technology, Agriculture Faculty, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta (+300 m above sea level) and in Ciwalen Village, Cianjur, West Java (+ 1.000 m above sea level), from January up to June 2003 The experiment used 2 x 2 factorial design and arranged in the randomized completely design (CRD) with four replications. The first factor was color of seed that consisted of two levels i.e. black soybean and yellow soybean. The second factor was storage temperature that consisted of two levels i.e low temperature (200C 230C) and high temperature(270C 290C). Every treatment was packed in polyethylene bags and can packages. The observation of the parameter had tested in every month until six months. The parameter were seed quality (viability and vigor test), seedling growth (seedling height, leaves number, root length and dry weight of seedling), moisture content, storage temperature and relative humidity. The result showed that there was interaction between color of seed coat and storage temperature. Black soybean seed had viability (>90 %), vigor and growth of seedling better than that of yellow soybean seed in low and high temperature (both in polyethylene bags and can packages) after six months storing. Yellow bean seed, both polyethylene bags and can packages in low temperature had high viability (>80 %) better than that of in high temperature (
