- ABSTRACT This is a cross-sectional study aimed at establishing the relationship between several factors such as: the maternal concept of child development, level of maternal education, children's sex, maternal concept of cadre's attitude and behavior in counseling, maternal perception of the role of Family Welfare Organization (PKK) in the Under five Children Development Program (BKB), with the maternal participation in the 8KB program as assessed by the number of visits to BKB counseling. The subjects of this study were 149 mothers of underfive children listed as members of 8KB in the financial year 1993/1994, in the village of Salaman, Paripurno and Kaliabu, in the subdistrict of Salaman, Magelang regency. The relationship between the independent variables and dependent variable, statistical analysis by way of cross tabulation and chi square was used. After any existing relation is established, the strength of the relation is examined using contingency coefficient. There is a significant relationship between the maternal concept of child development, level of maternal education, maternal concept toward cadre's attitude and behavior in counseling with the mother's attendance in the counseling (p0,05). Of the three independent variables shown to have a correlation with dependent variables, cadre's attitude and behavior in counseling was shown to be the variable with the strongest correlation (contingency coefficient=0,761).
