- ABSTRACT This research will explore a consistence between the aplication of modernization theory and its outcome that manifested in the third countries' capitalism � especially in Indonesia � with the supporting assumptions as well as the main purpose of the modernization as an "ism", that are ideas to achieve the modem and advanced country. Spreading of capitalism that uses modernization theory as "the trojans horse", finally, emerges various crises. When the darkness side of capitalism (capital accumulation and impersonal production mode) meets with the feu- dalism remains that still have predominant, a situation in which the development objectives is confronted as well as becomes part of what Habermas has called as "Modernity Paradox". This research basically represents the contextual analysis toward this era situation using a Critical Sociology point of view analysis. In the hermeneutics this approach can be classified into the re-contextualization approach of historical process. This study by critical approach will explore the development myths and the including potential crisis inside of, related with the latter capitalism mode invention. The result of this research shows that modernization, industrialization, and capitalism actually represents same entities. In Indonesia, it manifests as a capitalism form that has been distorted by various vested interests from the interest group marrying political power and capital accumulation. If the development resembles the human being's ex terti on rationally aimed to resolve the stupidity, poverty, and dependent from external power, then the development becomes an ideology that has a coercive power nature and conquered every individual right and interest for the sake of the capitalism driving wheel. Then through the development itself the above exertion to develop becomes an irrational manner. The development exertion creates a paradox because it is precisely induces the more tremendous dependent from individual toward the institution that we call it: na ti on-state.
