  • Palm Oil Fatty Acids Distilate, the byproduct of physical refining of palm oil, has been found to contain a considerable amount of tocopherol. This tocopherol can be separated from saponiable materials, however, needs further purification. Considering the properties of activated zeolite, it seems to be a promising material for packing material for the purification of tocopherol. It is therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of temperature (500, 600, 700°C) and concentration of sulphuric acid (0, 25, 50, and 75%) zeolite activation process on the properties of zeolite. The activation zeolites were then used as the packing materials for colomn chromatography. The results showed that the moisture content and the ratio of Si/ Al in the activated zeolite were effected by the condition of the activation. The specific surface area and the diameter of pore were found not to be effected by the condition of the activation. The recovery of tocopherol varies from 10,62 to 52,19 %. However, the eluate still contained some impurities so that it can be considered that temperature and concentration of the sulphuric acid used in this study will not give an activated zeolite which can be used for the purification of tocopherols.
