  • One of the important elements in a building's construction structure is beam. In order to use beams in a structure, designers must be able to conduct the calculation process and make the job easier. A kind of method to perform the beam calculation easier is AISC-ASD (American Institute of Steel construction-Allowable Stress Design, 1989) by using tables and curves. Through this method enables designers to determine beam dimension by calculating the moment due to service load that does not exceed the allowable stress: The routine calculation can simply be done and put in tables or plotted as family curves for practical design purpose, where the final result is obtaining the intended steel section based on moment and unbraced- length.
