- The effect of temperature on the extraction constant in the extraction of copper (Cu) from aqueous solution with commercial extractant of LIX 84-I in kerosene has been studied. The experiments were carried out using a three necked flask mounted in a waterbath. Hundred cubic centimeters (100 cm3) of aqueous solution of Cu of fixed concentration was mixed with 100 cm3 of 1:1 LIX 84-I-kerosene solution in a three necked flask.' This mixture was stirred for a fixed time interval in a fixed temperature and then was equilibrated for a certain minutes to attain the extraction equilibrium. After the aqueous phase was separated from the kerosene phase, then a sample was pipetted from the aqueous phase. The Cu concentration of the sample was determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The content of Cu in the kerosene phase was determined by its mass balance. The higher the extraction temperature, the lower the value of the extraction constants. The equation shows the effect of temperature on the extraction constant for the, extraction of Cu from water using LIX 84-I in kerosene is: 2,556.1 In K ek, = 11.67 with the relative mean error of 5.1%. The values of dH and dS for this extraction are - 5,078.97 cal/gmol and -23.18 cal/gmol/K, respectively. Keywords: temperature, equilibrium, extraction, copper, LIX 84-I.
