  • A good calciners performance indicated by the whole combustible fraction of input fuel burned and also by the calcinations process so that the calcinations degree of 90 % at kiln inlet. Such condition does not exists on calciner operation at PT Semen Tonasa IV. Researcher tried to study the process inside the calciner numerically using Fluent 5.4 package to diagnose the causes of improper performance of the calciner The simulation results showed that there is char of 47,74 % which is not burned, resulted in lack of energy for calcination process, so that the degree of calcination is just 78,345 %. The diagnoses results revealed that the cause of that problem is that there is no enough supply of air (02) into combustion process and there are some coal particles have a short residences time in the calciner. Besides adding the supply of air (02) up to optimum limit, a modification by adding the height of calciner is reasonable step to overcome that problem.
