  • The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of water concentration of emulsified fuel on the engine characteristics, emission of CO â HC and opacity of exhaust gas. The experiments is conducted on the engine test bed which has been provided with the instruments for measuring torque, fuel and air consumptions, and exhaust gas emissions. Diesel engine employed is a single cylinder. .four stroke engine, 353 cc displacement volume, and compression ratio of 21:1. The water concentration is varied from 0, 10, 20, and 30%, and the injection timing is set at 22° bTDC by the engine manufacturer. The result of experiments shows that the power and torque of diesel engine with emulsified fuel do not significantly change compare to that with diesel fuel. However, the SFC of engine with emulsified fuel is lower than that with diesel fuel. The CO emission of engine with emulsified fuel decreases by 33% at low engine speeds (below 1600 rpm), and by 57% at high engine speeds (above 2000 rpm), as compared with that of diesel fuel. Unburned hydrocarbon (TIC) emission decreases by 37% and 25% at low and high engine speeds, respectively. In addition, the opacity of exhaust gas decreases by 45% and 39%, at high and low engine speeds. Keywords: Emulsified fuel, exhaust gas emission, engine characteristic, opacity.
