- ABSTRACT This research aims at revealing wedana renggan - an ornament that frames a text -in a text about Paku Alam I. This text is only one among other stories in Sestradisuhul, composed by Paku Alam II. Philological and literary approaches are employed to reach the aim. The philological approach is employed to handle the manuscript and transliteration problems. The literary approach especially intertextual theory is used to enable researcher to interpret the meanings of the text and the wedana renggan dealing with the story of Paku Alarn I in Sestradisuhul. The results of this research reveal that the wedana renggan was drawn after the story of Paku Alam I had been written down. Therefore the patterns of reading wedana renggan in Sestradisuhul starts from the text it frames moving outward to the wedana renggan it self. There is an interrelationship between the text and the wedana renggan. The function of wedana renggan on a text about Paku Alam I is to visualize both the story in Sestradisuhui and the stories about Paku Alam I taken from other sources which could be linked to that in the Sestradisuhul.
