- ABSTRACT This experiment was done in vivo and the purpose were (1) to study the effect of adjuvants given prior to vaccination with viable ND vaccine on enhancing the immune response. Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA), Freund's incomplete adjuvant (FIA) and live ND vaccine (Hitchner Bl) were used, and (2) to compare the effect of FCA and FIA treatment on the increasing HI antibody titer. on chickens. The antibody formation indicated the immune response was observed at 4 periods by measuring the HI antibody titre according to the method of Allan et al. (1978) and Giambrone (1984). Thirty six-day old broiler chicks of Hybro strain were used. The chicks were randomly divided into 6 groups. The first 3 groups were used as control group. While the other 3 groups were administered with FCA, vaccinated with live ND, and vaccinated with live ND vaccine without adjuvant, respectively. The results showed that adjuvants given prior to vaccination with live ND vaccine increased Ill antibody titre. FCA was more effective than FIA in increasing immune response. This method is expected to be more effective in protecting chickens from virulent ND outbreak. -The administration of FCA or FM without being followed by vaccination of live ND vaccine did not increase la antibody litre.
