  • ABSTRAK Pelican (Pedestrian Light Controlled) crossings are controlled by traffic signals. The standard used to set each period in the Pelican in Indonesia has been established by Directorate General of Land Transport (DJPD, 1997). The standard is very simple and does not consider many factors, including traffic conditions. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the standard by taking into account many factors determining the duration of each period in the Pelican. The evaluation was carried out by comparing many studies undertaken in many countries and by allowing some modifications to adjust with traffic conditions in Indonesia. It has been found that duration of period 2 (anther to drivers period), which is 3 seconds, is appropriate. The other 5 periods should not be constant and should be set by taking into account road width, pedestrian flows and speeds, and traffic speeds. Further, the fixed-time system suggested by the standard is not always suitable, especially when pedestrian demands vary. ABSTRAK: Ikonos level geo, peta orthofoto
