- Industrial scale plantation establishment ofAcacia mangium in Sumatera and other parts of Indonesia, began in the last of 1970s. Most of the A. mangium seed originated from ex-situ source of Subanjeriji, South Sumatera. The stands were planted using bulk seed of South Queensland provenances with low productivity and narrow genetic base characteristics. Research objective was to investigate the highest productivity among the provenances of three major natural distributions. A provenance trial of A. mangium in Kampar Kiri, Riau was analyzed for its growth traits (height, diameter and volume) at age 30 months. Fourteenth provenances from three major natural distribution of the species i.e. Queensland (Australia), Papua New Guinea and Indonesia were included. Those provenances were tested according to Randomized Complete Block Design with 6 replications, 4 line-tree plots and 3 x 3 m spacing. The result showed that growth parameters of the tested provenances were significantly different. At this stage, three provenances namely Muting-lrja (Indonesia), Claudie River (Queensland, Australia) and Oriomo (PNG) were considered as the promising provenances for Industrial Forest Plantation in Kampar Kiri, Riau. Keywords: Acacia mangium, industrial forest plantation, provenance trial.
