  • ABSTRAK Previous study carried by Satyarno (2003) showed that local cane sugar produced by Madukismo Sugar Factory, Yogyakarta can be used as Type D concrete admixture according to ASTM Standard C494. This means that the cane sugar can work as both plasticizer and retarding admixture. This paper discusses the application of the local cane sugar as water-reducing admixture to minimize the application of cement in the concrete inix. Laboratory test results showed that for water-cement ratios of 0.45 and 0.50 with the maximum of aggregate diameters of 20 'tn and 40 inni the cane sugar can reduce the application of cement about 10% to reach the same degree of workability of that normal concrete. The higher reduction of cement up to 30 % trill reduce the workability, however, the achieved compressive strength is not reduced. 1n most cases the reduction of cement even increases the concrete compressive strength.
