- ABSTRAK One of the common problems in transferring audio's data via Internet is the availability of sufficient bandwidth, especially in Indonesia. The network's infrastructure still uses conventional technology with limitted bandwidth. Therefore to transfer audio data through the Internet, the data should be compressed first. This research was intended to develop a software that can compress audio data before they was sent through the network and decompressed at the end of transmission, based on wavelet algorithm. As compared to the others this algorithm was espected to increase the compression ratio without any significant degradation in the quality of the audio signals. The audio data were taken from a soundcard or a CD, and then were compressed with this system. A variation of the decomposition levels and threshold levels had been explored to achieve the highest compression ratio with some acceptable quality. The results show that this software performed well to compress audio signals with compression ratios up to 80 %. Keywords:algoritmagalant rerata kuadrat
