- ABSTRACT The multi-layered model of its kind has been common to engineers where finite difference and the finite element method were adopted. In the present study, a numerical scheme based on the method of characteristic for the multi-layered model is developed. The numerical dissipation error and the phase error were studied using the linearized form of the scheme. It is shown that the scheme is weakly dissipated and that the stability is limited to Courant stability condition. Further, the stability also subject to eddy viscosity coefficient adopted for the simulation.
