  • ABSTRACT By anthropological perspective, discussing about the success of small industry, especially leather manufacture is not only suitable to be seen in an economical point of view but also in noneconomy. A non-economic factor here is very important because the success of leather manufacture needs support from society actively. This research explains how and what manipulative strategies of traders in relationship with the other for surviving their manufacture, like for example the case on politics of leather manufacture industry in Magetan, East Java. The politics of leather manufacture industry is assumed different with the politics of other small scale industries. The research inquires both political anthropology and strategic perspective by using insider's point of view. This research aims to describe the trader strategy for surviving and developing the leather manufacture industry in the society. It is undertaken through a qualitative research where the data collected by using participant observation, indepth interview, and field work method. For describing native's point of view of the society, the researcher interprets and analyzes using insider's perspective. The results of the research show that, first, manipulative strategy of the traders for overcoming workers, capitals, materials, and distribution problems need to build a networking planning with the others. And second, manipulative strategy of traders for overcoming social problems are to intensify a networking among Kyai, village institution, young man, society, and to support the.village development.
