- ABSTRACT City open space has important role in shaping city structure. The city space has to be able to facilitate much kind of social, cultural as well as economical activities. Artificial illumination is inevitably needed for facilitating night time activities. It would create comfort and safety for people activities. Based on that, the objective of this research is to study the correlation between night time artificial illumination and space utilizing pattern in the city open space. The case studies in this research represent two types of open spaces: street and square, i.e. Alun-alun Utara (square) and Jalan Mangkubumi (street).
