- ABSTRACT The leprosy finding was still in a small number compared to the expected. To increase case detection of leprosy, an intensive guidance for community as well as improvement of motivation and knowledge among health workers in managing the elimination of leprosy should be conducted. This study was aimed at analyzing and evaluating the Leprosy Elimination Compaign (LEC) program held in the Regency of Banjar in 1999. This was descriptive study Control Pre Test Post Test Design, i.e. comparing the past ativities before LEC and the activities after LEC was held. The area of study was in the Regency of Banjar and the Regency of Hulu Sungai Selatan as a comparison of non-LEC area. The analysis unit were the number of active and passive sufferers before LEC was held. The analysis units were the number of active and passive sufferers, number of recovery, prevalence rate of leprosy sufferers in certain years (1996-2001). The results showed that the finding of passive sufferers after the LEC was The results showed that the finding of passive sufferers aster the LEC was held increased compared with that beforre the LEC was held. The rate of prevalance seemed to increase as a result of the increasing number of active and passive sufferers found after the LEC. The level of recovery increased. The result showed that the community's awareness of leprosy is improving and the health workers' activity also improving. In order to maintain or make leprosy finding better and the LEC program should be continued. The other regencies that have never held such program is recomended to rebuld and the funding is expected from the community as the cost is relatively cheap.
