- ABSTRACT Cervical cancer is a common malignancy in women and still be a problem of health in the world. Oncogenic viruses, Human papihmaviruses (HPV) type 16,18,45 and 54 are well characterized viruses that play role in cervical cancer. However there are possibility that other viruses might also involve in this cancer incidence. A study of double infection on head and neck cancer in Philipines shows that is found cases of double infection of HPV and Epstein-Barr Viruses (EBV) on nasopharyngeal cancer. It is known that EBV also infect squameus cells, so the aim of this study is to determine the presence of oncogenic viruses both EBV and HPV in cervical cancer cells and its relationship with progressivity of the disease. Twenty-five tissue samples diagnosed as cervical cancer were examined. Detection of HP V-DNA was carried out by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification of HPV-L, region, using primer MY11/MY09. EBV-DNA was detected by PCR amplification of EBV-Ebna 3C region, using primer Ebna 3C5/Ebna 3C The amplified HPV-L, product is approximately 500 bp long, where as the EBV-Ebna 3C product is 153 bp as EBV
