  • ABSTRACT Increasing number of colleges in Yogyakarta make more students from other regions coming to Yogyakarta. On one extreme, it serves as profitable field to improve wealthy. Local people presumably take the opportunity by providing lodging, trading and other services demanded. On the other extreme, it creates social issues resulted from different tribes, traditions, religions and other customs. However, in fact it shows integration, as if no problem has been created. Therefore, research should be conducted to identify the forms of integration and potential conflict between students livingand people.The present research was carried out at Besi Pedukuhan (sub-village), Sukoharjo village, Ngaglik sub-district, Yogyakarta Special Distric. Method utilized was descriptive-qualitative, using collection technique through interviews and observations. Secondary data was gathered through documentary study. Data collected were analyzed through three chains involving data reduction, presentation and verification or conclusive description.Integrating functional structure, conflict and social exchange theories, it was found that factors affecting integration between students living in lodgings and local people were interdependent relationship between lodgings and living facilities, interaction between students, lodgin& owners and local people, tolerance on various traditions and sosial status, informal and formal social system control. As a result, two dimensional forms developed, i.e interpersonal and social-economic integrations. Unfortunately, the two forms of integration has developed within distrust and pretense frames to create harmony. Developing integration is temporary and discontinuous. Latent conflict, disintegration threat,dysfunction and disjunction are contained within it.
