- ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research is to determine the effect of writing about emotional experiences towards depression on college students. The same researches in western countries show that there are effects of writing about emotional experience towards individual health, including decreasing symptoms of depression. Are the same results happen on Indonesian college students? Depressive symptoms are chosen for this research as a dependent variable because depressive disorder is known as the most common mental disorders. Approximately 20% of population and one to four college students suffer from depression. Writing about emotional experiences is chosen, as a treatment in this research because this therapy is different from other therapies. Writing about emotional experiences could be done with many people at the same time and there is no special training for the facilitators. Because of it, writing about emotional experiences will be efficient and economic. Based on the past researches, writing about emotional experiences was known being increase immunity of the body, mental health and changing behaviour at the certain level.This research uses quasi-experimental method. The measurements are self-reports: CES - D, IES and manipulation check. Each of them is used for measured depressive symptoms, level of environmental distress and to know between control and experiment group are really have different treatment.Asked the control group to write campus description, while experiment group is asked to write about their emotional experiences does the research. Treatment was done once. Subjects experiment were psychology college students who take second semester lessons. The numbers of subjects that include in result analysis were 24 subjects for treatment group and 27 subjects for control group, total were 51 subjects. The result showed that there was no significant difference in depressive symptoms between control group and experiment group with F = 0.00028
