- The main cause of the failure of water pond was the fluctuation of water quality. This research aimed to test two models that were able to describe the fluctuation of water salinity as one of the water quality parameters. The research was conducted in Muara Sedari, Karawang from November to December 2002. The two models were Mixed-Salinity Model and Cosines Model. Mixed salinity model predicted salinity in river mouth through computation of salinity of both river and sea. The Cosines model predicted salinity of water in river mouth as considering sea tidal and river discharge. Cosines Models consisted of two models, namely Tidal Model and Salinity Regression Model. Output of Tidal Model became one of the inputs of Salinity Regression Model. In this research four types of Salinity Regression Model were tested. Salinity of sample from study area was measured using Argentometry Method. Model was then validated by using T-Test and analysis of correlation coefficient. Result of T-Test showed that all models are applicable. However, Cosines Model with Regression Equation Y = Y0 + aX, + bX2 + c X,2 + dX/, had the best correlation (R2 = 0,77).
