- ABSTRACT This publication is a result analysis of the language ritual use in Tenggerese religious domain. The main issues discussed were the diacronic aspects of relic lingual units and the use of krama marker (polite expressions) in Tenggerese ritual language. This study theoretically contributes the analysis of Javanese dialectology. The study was conducted through several steps: data collections, sellections, and analysis. Data collections were done through observation and field notes. The data were in the forms of spellings gained from the holy's statements in ritual events, liturgical scripts, and spellings documents which were then sellected to get representative data. The data were comparatively-analyzed by comparing the lingual units in ritual language to the lingual units in Old-Javanese, Tenggerese dialect Javanese, and standard Javanese. Based on the analysis it was found that the lingual units which built the use of ritual language had identical forms or similar to those found in Old Javanese. The relic characteristic mostly shown were in phonological, morphological, and lexical orders. Beside, sporadic and innovative forms resulting from (orderly) natural changes were also identified. Theoretically, those relic forms were the reflections of Old Javanese. Historically, the relic reflected that in the time Tengger had special connections with Old Javanese cultural center area (Majapahit). On the other side, the ritual language relic had also a connection with the language resistence caused by the long isolation of Tenggerese and being in the remote place far away from the cultural center (Yogya-Solo). The use of krama marker (polite expresions) in religious domain had signalled the fade of their being solitary from geographical, social, and cultural isolation. They -through their own perspectives- accepted krama as a civilized means of communication. The use of krama in the religious domain reflected Tenggerese desire to become part of wider community, that is Javanese community. Key words: ritual language, relic, religious domain
