- ABSTRACT The material object of this research is a modern Egyptian novel entitled AI-Khilid, written by Najib Kaylini. The formal object is post-colonial perspective focused on nationalism aspect using deconstruction method. The result of the research revealed that the writer, in mobilizing his notion of nationalism, prefered synthesis between two expressions of nationalism: Both of expressions were ambivalence, namely tradition rhetoric: a tendency to see back to the past, religion, and tradition
