  • ABSTRACT: Tensile tests were carried out on unidirectional CFRP to observe the effects of specimen geometry on fracture mode of the circular necked specimen. Necked-on-thickness specimens having various thicknesses of the necked region with constant radius'of curvature were tested The results show that, as the thickness ratio between the necked and un-necked region increases a transition in fracture mode from tensile failure at the necked region to interlaminar shear failure spreading to the outside of the necked region before final fracture was observed. This transition is attributed to the change in the relation between shear fracture load and tensile fracture load with changing thickness ratio.
