- ABSTRACT The research aimed was to study the inheritance of flower number per cluster and fruit size of tomato including to test the maternal effect, inheritance pattern, gene action, heritability, and genetic advance. Two tomato cultivars, LV.6123 having less flowers number in each cluster and large fruit size and LV.5152 having more flowers in each cluster and small fruit size. The two parents tomato were crossed to each other to get generations of Vy F1R, F2, BC^ and BCir The generations were planted to study the inheritance pattern of the characteristics of interest. Results of the study indicated that there was no maternal effect of respect to any characteristic of the parents different. Flower number per cluster and fruit size were genetically inherited in quantitative model, and controlled by three and four genes respectively. Both characteristics were influenced by additive effect, dominant effect and epistatic effect. Heritability estimate of the two characteristics were moderate, but the genetic advance for flower number was high, and low for fruit size. Keywords: Tomato, gene action inheritance of flower number per cluster and fruit size
