- Abstract Heterogeneous error variance was often encountered in multilocation trial, eventhough data transformation was applied. In this case nonparametric methods should be applied. Sugarcane productivity (cane yield, rendement and sugar yield) data from Indonesian Sugar Research Institute, Pasuruan East Java, obtained from multilocation trial over 32 promising varieties of PS 89 series were analysed. The trial were conducted at five locations, i.e. Jatiroto East Java, Medan North Sumatera, Takalar South Sulawesi, Comal Center Java and Pasuruan East Java, for 1995/1996 planting and subsequent 1996/1997 first ratoon crop. In this analysis years were treated as different environments. Hiihn's nonparametric stability analysis showed that the 32 varieties as a group were not significant indicating that all varieties were stable, x2 test f°r individual variety revealed that S,(1) and S/2' for cane yield of variety number 30 and S
