  • ABSTRACT The experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of feeding papaya leaves {Carica papaya L) on production, and organoleptic of Bligon goat meat. Twenty-one females of six months old (13.95 ± 0.78 kg) were used in this experiment. The goats were divided into three treatments of completely randomized design (CRD) namelyRO (control) of non papaya leaves feed (10% Hibiscus tiliacius + 15% Artocarpus heterophyllus + 75% Native grass), Rl (25% Carica papaya L + 75% Native grass), R2 (50% Carica papaya L + 50% Native grass). The goats were fed with dietary treatments for 12 weeks and slaughtered at the end of the trial. The collected data were feed consumption, average daily gain, feed convertion ratio, carcass percentage and also taste, tenderness, texture and meat colour. Data were analyzed statistically using analysis variance and nonparametric statistic H-test. The results indicated that the feeding papaya leaves increased feed intake, but not for the average daily gain, feed convertion and carcass percentage. The organoleptic test of the meat indicated that feeding papaya leaves influenced significantly the meat taste. Feeding papaya leaves significantly produced a bitter meat. But there were no different on bitter taste between 25% and 50% papaya leaves level. The 50% papaya leaves increased tenderness of meat but did not for 25% that had more brightness meat. The feeding pepaya leaves did not influence meat texture. Keywords: goat - papaya leaves - production performance - meat quality
