- ABSTRAK Sorbitol polyester with palm oil fatty acid distillate (PFAD) as source of fatty acid was synthesis with solvent free-one stage method. Response surface methodology was used to evaluate the effects of synthesis variables such as reaction time (5-7 hr), temperature (130-150°C) and substrate molar ratio of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) to sorbitol (8:1 to 12:1) on the % molar basis for the conversion to sorbitol polyester. Result showed that yield of reaction was 76,21% at the following optimum condition: substrate molar ratio 10,01:1, synthesis temperature 138,45oC and reaction time 6 hr 20 minutes. Sorbitol polyester had a hydroxyl value 24,92 mg KOH/g which was approximately equivalent to Degree of Substitution 4-5. It had refractive index, specific gravity, viscosity and melting point at 1,47
