  • The genetic variation of P. merkusii was investigated using seven polymorphic loci from three enzyme system, namely Esterase (EST), Glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), and Shikimate dehydrogenase (ShDH) as marker genes. Result of this research showed that Kerinci populations were small and scattered and consequently, the inbreeding rate was high (Fis=0.506), and caused the low genetic variation (Ho=0.041) and some significant loss of valuable genes of population. The Kerinci population was the most seriously threatened. The population had been severely fragmented, and some of the stands occupied an area less than 1 ha and consisted only few trees. In-situ and ex-situ conservation, integrated into the existing breeding program, was considered one of the more effective efforts to conserve this valuable genetic resource.
