  • Different pieces of wood never identical in its properties and are similar only within broad limits. The variations can be related to radial or axial position of the stem. The objectives of this research was to study the wood structure-anatomy on axial and radial position and also potential use of Melinjo wood. The research was arranged with factorial experiment in Randomized Com-plete Block Design (RCBD). Factors of the research were radial and axial position on the trunk. The radial position consisted of positions close to the pith, between pith and bark, and close to the bark. The axial position consisted of positions lower-end of the trunk, middle of the trunk and top of the trunk. Parameters were analysed by varian analysis, and the correlations among the properties were studied using correlation analysis. The results showed that structure-anatomy of the wood composed by fibres 53.15 %, vessels 8.20 %, rays 21.70%. Measurements on the fibre dimension.showed 1.96 mm length, 21.23 urn diameter and 5.40 urn cell-wall thickness. Interactions between the radial and axial position and also axial position did not significantly affect to all parameters. Radial positions significantly affected lo structure-anatomy of the wood. The increase in fibre length was mainly assosiated with an increase in cell-wall thickness, decrease in vessel proportion and lumen diameter. Melinjo wood fulfil the requiement as material for pulp and paper.
