  • Confucianism has long been prevailed in East Asia through centuries and becoming the most prevalent ethics. The legacy of Confucianism, widely renowned as New Confucianism however is still strongly embedded in socio-cultural life of its citizens. Even in contemporary context, it is undeniable that New Confucianism remains as a cornerstone of socio-cultural and socio-political structures in this region. Nevertheless, the influence of Western thoughts which infiltrate and influence East Asian way also can not be denied. The role and legacy of Confucian ethics for contemporary socio-political development thus becoming debatable. This thesis is designed to review and analyze the new political character in East Asia from the standpoint of New Confucian ethics through comparative studies in three countries which are China, Japan, and South by addressing two research questions: First, why does New Confucian ethics is still relevant in viewing political character in East Asia?
