- Background of the study is that insulin resistance and central obesity is thought to be the most influential factor for metabolic syndrome. NAFLD is a manifestation of the metabolic syndrome in the liver. Some studies suggest that metformin and telmisartan provide significant improvements to insulin resistance and liver histology. The aim of research to determine whether metformin and telmisartan may improve insulin resistance in patients with metabolic syndrome (abdominal circumference, diabetes and hypertension) with NAFLD. The study design is a before and after design that was done for 12 weeks. Subjects were patients aged 35-65 years who had been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (abdominal circumference, diabetes and hypertension) based on IDF 2006 and NAFLD, receiving insulin therapy and have a phone that can be contacted and is willing to be included in the study. Analysis using paired t tes when data were normally distributed and using Wilcoxon test if the distribution is not normal. Results of the study found that there is no improvement of insulin resistance in metabolic syndrome patients with NAFLD who received metformin and telmisartan.
