- Background: Infectious disease and communicable disease are problems which are faced by developing countries. Nosocomial infection may give the bad effect to patients, patient's families and nurses. One of health service to patients is intra venous therapist. Giving this therapist in long term can affect to some complication, and one of them is phlebitis. Phlebitis rate can occur about 20% to 70% among patients that are cared and get infusion installation at hospital. Universal precautions is an effort to prevent the occurrence of nosocomial infection (INOS) which should be performed on all health services. Nurse role in infusion installation up should be match with SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). Therefore, it can prevent the occurance of phlebitis to patients. Objective: To find out factors correlating with nurse's behavior about universal precaution related to infusion installation in PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital of Yogyakarta. Methods: This study was observational with cross-sectional design. Cross Sectional was performed to determine factors correlating behavior of the nurses in the application of universal precautions related to the installation of infusion in hospital. Results: The results showed there was a significant relationship between knowledge and behavior of the respondents (p = 0.04), there was no significant relationship between attitudes and behavior of respondents (p = 0.581), there was no a significant relationship between the availability of facilities and the respondent's behavior (p = 0.127), and there was a significant relationship between hospital policy and respondent's behavior (p = 0.001). Conclusion: There were significant relationship among knowledge, hospital policy and nurse behavior of universal precautions related to infusion installation Keywords: Nosocomial infection, nurses, universal precautions
