  • Andrographis paniculata containing an active compound andrographolide, and Curcuma xanthorrhiza containing curcumin, were reported to have potent hypoglycemic activity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the antidiabetic effects of the combination of andrographolide and curcumin in insulin resistance rats. Andrographolide was isolated using gradual fractionation method. Qualitative analysis of andrographolide used 2-dimensional TLC, whereas quantitative analysis used HPLC. Insulin resistance in rat was induced by oral administration of fructose 1.8 g/kgBW, 2 mL duck egg yolks, and 2 mL lard oil for 120 consecutive days. Insulin resistance in rat was confirmed by using hypoglycemic activity of glibenclamide on day 120.
