Daftar Isi:
- The study explores the phenomenon of using public space for Sunday Morning Market in Gadjah Mada University campus in Yogyakarta. The rapid development of market is not followed by the improvement of the physical condition of the place which can lead to the deterioration of environment and conflicts between users. Hence, it is necessary to conduct a study to understand the behavirol patterns, charactieristics and preferences of users to formulate the design guidelines for the market. In the study, design guidelines are formulated considering factors such as, comfort, savety, and attractiveness. The guidelines can be summarized as follows: 1) transform the fatigue point to be a rest area, 2) the market needs to provide parking area, 3) the market needs to provide a comfort walking area, 4) it should prioritize the food , drink vendors, and amenities at the rest area. The guidelines from the study will be able to be generalized to be used for other Sunday Morning Market in other cities in Indonesia with similar charactieristics with the case study. The study is a descriptive research, which requires primary and secondary data to formulate the design guidelines. Data are obtained from field observation and survey questionnaire to understand perceptions and preferences regarding the Sunday Morning Market. The data then are analyzed descriptively to to understand behaviors and characteristics of movements of respondents and types of activities. Place centered mapping is conducted to identify the spatial pattern of movement and aglomeration of activities in the market. The results of observation and mapping are as follows. First, visitors will park their vehicle at the provided parking space and walk along the pedestrian where street vendors are located. The maximum walking distance from the parking lot is approximately 500 meters, before visitors decide to come back to the parking area and leave the market. Favorite locations in the market include area with sufficient width to walk, area with covers from sunlight and/or rain, area with good amenities, and area with attractions.
